A client required prior-art research for a patent involving blockchain-based payment processing and token generation.
At a high level, the claimed process connected conventional payment processing with blockchain-based record keeping. A payment transaction containing information such as payer or payee details, transaction amount and payment purpose was processed by a bank database. The database generated an enriched representation of the transaction, incorporating additional organization or classification attributes.
The challenge in this investigation was determining whether the specific combination of payment processing, enriched transaction records, token generation and blockchain-based identification for future verification or audit had already been disclosed before the subject patent’s August 2015 cutoff.
