Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Patent Analyst/Senior Patent Analyst/Team Lead/Manager to join our Chemistry team (Markush Structure Search). The ideal candidate will have expertise in chemical and composition-based search, structure searching, and Markush structure analysis to support our research, development, and patent activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform chemical structure and Markush searches using cheminformatics tools (e.g., SciFinder, Reaxys) and patent databases; analyse and interpret results to identify relevant compounds and structures.
  • Develop, refine, and optimize search strategies to improve accuracy and efficiency; maintain and update chemical databases with high-quality data.
  • Review and analyse patents and scientific literature in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery to extract relevant insights.
  • Support prior art searches, patentability assessments, and freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses; generate detailed reports and documentation of search strategies and findings.
  • Interpret chemical structures, synthetic pathways, bioactivity data, and structure– activity relationships (SAR) to support IP decisions and identification of novel drug molecules.
  • Leverage strong academic background (M.Pharm/MS in medicinal, organic, inorganic, or process chemistry) with solid understanding of organic synthesis, drug mechanisms, and lead optimization.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to scientific detail, ability to work independently, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and stay updated with pharmaceutical research and patent trends.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Medicinal Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or a related field, with proven experience in chemical structure searching, including Markush structures.
  • Strong knowledge of cheminformatics tools and databases (e.g., ChemSpider, SciFinder, Marvin, ChemAxon) along with familiarity in molecular modelling, chemical drawing, and structure representation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex chemical data.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present findings effectively, and capability to work independently as well as within multidisciplinary teams.
